عن الرواية : “العجوز والبحر” إرنست هيمنجواي كان رجلا عجوزاً يصيد السمك وحدَه في قارب عريض في “تيار الخليج”، وكان قد مضى أربعة وثمانون يوماً من غير أن يفوز بسمكة واحدة. وفي الأيام الأربعين الأولى كان يصحبه غلام صغير، حتى إذا قضى أربعين يوماً من غير أن يوفّق إلى صيد ما، قال والد الغلام لابنه أن الشيخ منحوس نحساً لا ريب فيه ولا برء منه، وسأله أن يعمل في قارب آخر، وفور ما بدأ العمل الجديد ما لبث أن فاز بثلاث سمكات رائعات في الأسبوع الأول. وقد أحزن الغلام أن يرى الشيخ يرجع كل يوم خاليَ الوفاض، فكانَ ما يفتأ يمضي للقائه ويساعده في حمل صنانيره الملتفة أو حربة الصيد، والشراع المطويّ حول السارية. وكان الشراع مرقعا بأكياس دقيق عتيقة، فهو يبدو وقد طُوي على هذه الشاكلة أشبه ما يكون براية الهزيمة السرمدية
الموضوع : العجوز والبحر أو الشيخ والبحر وهي رواية للكاتب إرنست همنجواي قام بتأليفها في هافانا، كوبا في عام 1952 وكانت إحدى روائعه إلى جانب «وداعاً للسلاح» و«ثلوج كلمنجارو» وغيرها.. حاز إرنست همنجواي بفضل العجوز والبحر على جائزة نوبل في الأدب وجائزة بوليتزر الأمريكية لأستاذيته في فن الرواية الحديثة ولقوة أسلوبه كما يظهر ذلك بوضوح في قصته الأخيرة “العجوز والبحر” كما جاء في تقرير لجنة نوبل

About The Novel : “The old man and the sea”, Ernest Hemingway was an old man fishing alone in a wide boat in the “Gulf Stream”, and it was eighty-four days without winning a single fish. And in the first forty days he was accompanied by a small boy, even if he spent forty days without success in hunting something, the boy’s father said to his son that the Sheikh is lucky, unquestionable and innocent, and he asked him to work on another boat, and as soon as the new work started what He soon won three amazing fishes in the first week. The boy was saddened to see the sheikh returning every day empty-handed, so he would continue to meet him and help him carry his wrapped hooks or bayonet, and the folded sail around the mast. The sail was patched with delicate antique bags, as it looked like this was folded like the banner of the eternal defeat.
