عن الكتاب : هل رأيت نفسك من قبل من خلال أعين الآخر حتى يتسنى لك مناقشته بأسلوبه ومن نفس زاويته؟! هذا هو ما قام به إدوار سعيد عندما خاطب الغرب المتخفي في العلم والحرية مخفياً حقيقة أفكاره العنصرية وراء لفظ ” شرقي” وفي هذا الكتاب ترجمة لكتابه عن الإستشراق الذي نقدمه للقارئ العربي كأساس للمنهج النقدي الذي وضعه المؤلف فنتعرف على جغرافيا الشرق ودينه وأفكاره من خلال أعين الغرب. يتناول إدوارد سعيد العديد من المواضيع حول الدول العربية و الشرق من منظور مختلف، و يوجه الانتقاد للمستشرقين الغرب الذين يتحدثون عن الشرق من خلال قراءتهم للكتب و مشاهدة أخبار الشرق فقط، ولا يتحدثون عنه من واقع خبراتهم و لا تجربة مباشرة بالشرق، ففي الفصل الأول من الكتاب يقوم الكاتب بتوضع تعريف محدد للاستشراق، ويوضح أن الغرب منح نفسه مكانة المسيطر على المشرق، المراقب له من بعيد، و يظهر الغرب بمظر العقلاني المتفتح، بينما يظهر الشرق بمظهر الرجعي الغير متحضر، و في الفصل الثاني من الكتاب يوضح الكاتب تاريخ الاستشراق وأهم المستشرقين، ومن أهم المستشرقين الذين قدمهم إدوارد سعيد في كتابه (غوستاف فلوبير) الروائي الفرنسي، و (جيرارد دو نيرفال) الكاتب الفرنسي أيضًا ، و (روديارد كيبلينغ) الكاتب الإنجليزي، و (هومر) الشاعر الإغريقي
عن الكاتب : مُنظر أدبي فلسطيني وحامل للجنسية الأمريكية. كان أستاذا جامعيا للغة الإنكليزية والأدب المقارن في جامعة كولومبيا في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ومن الشخصيات المؤسسة لدراسات ما بعد الكولونيالية. كما كان مدافعا عن حقوق الإنسان للشعب الفلسطيني
الموضوع : هذه هي الترجمة العربيّة الكاملة للطبعة العربيّة المزيدة، والصادرة عام 1995 لكتاب الاستشراق: المفاهيم الغربيّة للشرق، للمفكّر العالمي، والناقد الفذ إدوارد سعيد، وفيها يُضيف فصلاً كاملاً عن أصداء ذلك الكتاب (الذي صدر أول مرة عام 1978) في العالم. كما يُعيد النظر في بعض المسائل التي رأى أنها تحتاج لإعادة نظر، ويرُد فيه على نُقّاده
وإدوارد سعيد من القلائل، إن لم يكُن الكاتب الوحيد الذي تصدّى للغرب بلُغته، ومنهجه العلمي الحديث في كتبه، فكشف الغطاء عما يُخفيه الغرب من عقليّة مُتطرّفة لا ترمي إلا لإقصاء الآخر، وتحقيق مطامع ماديّة صرفة
وبهذا ساهم سعيد في توطيد الهيكل الحالي لما يُسمى بالنقد الثقافي، أو المدخل الثقافي في النقد الأدبي، وهو الذي يربط بين الأدب، والكتابة والدرس، وبين النزعات البشريّة المنحطّة التي يُدينها الغربيّون بألسنتهم، وتؤيدها قلوبهم، وأفعالهم حتى هذه اللحظة مثل؛ العنصريّة، والأطماع الاستعماريّة، والتسلُّط، وهو ما يتجلى في بناء الإمبراطوريات أي الإمبريالية، وما تكشف عنه دراسة أعمال المستشرقين في هذا الكتاب

About The Writer : Palestinian literary theorist and holder of American citizenship. He was a university professor of English and comparative literature at Columbia University in the United States of America and one of the founders of post-colonial studies. He was also a defender of the human rights of the Palestinian people
Subject : This is the complete Arabic translation of the augmented Arabic edition of the 1995 book Orientalism: Western Concepts of the East by international thinker and critic Edward Said, and in it he adds an entire chapter on the echoes of that book (which was first published in 1978) in the world. He also reviews some of the issues that he thought needed to be reconsidered, and responded to it to his critics
And Edward Said is one of the few, if he was not the only writer who confronted the West with his language and modern scientific method in his books.
With this, Saeed contributed to the consolidation of the current structure of what is called cultural criticism, or the cultural approach to literary criticism, which links literature, writing and studying, and between the decadent human tendencies that Westerners condemn with their tongues, supported by their hearts, and their actions until this moment, such as; Racism, colonial ambitions, and authoritarianism, which is reflected in the building of empires, i.e. imperialism, and what the study of orientalist works reveals in this book
This translation was undertaken by the sheikh of Arab translators. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Anani, a professor at Cairo University, who previously translated two books by Edward Said on the same house, namely; Covering Islam, the Intellectual and the Authority
